Chapter 4

Overcoming Challenges to Orgasm

The final chapter looks at what can stand in the way of orgasm and the help that is available. It names common barriers, including stress, anxiety, relationship issues and physical factors, then explains pain during sex, known as dyspareunia, and some of its causes. Readers learn how sex therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can address emotional and psychological blocks, and how medical options such as hormone therapy and pelvic floor therapy may improve sexual function. The module closes with ideas for building confidence, such as pleasure mapping and avoiding comparison, along with encouragement to prioritise self-care and talk openly with your partner.
