Chapter 5

Bathing Essentials

Bath time is the focus of the final chapter, which covers the items that make bathing gentle, safe and practical. It looks at choosing a supportive baby bathtub with a non-slip base, using a bath thermometer to keep the water at around 37°C, and picking tear-free, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free products suited to delicate skin. Safe bath toys, rinsing cups, soft washcloths and hooded towels are covered, along with gentle lotion and soft brushes that can help with cradle cap. The chapter also gives guidance on routine, including keeping baths short, delaying the first bath, and never leaving your baby unattended.
