Chapter 2

Navigating Body Image & Weight

Body image is a common struggle with PCOS, and this chapter explains why and what can help. It describes how visible symptoms, not only weight, can drive dissatisfaction with appearance, and why focusing solely on weight loss may harm body image and lead to restrictive habits, particularly when insulin resistance makes weight harder to shift. Hirsutism and its emotional impact are discussed, as is the higher risk of body dysmorphic disorder. The chapter then offers ways to shift the focus from how your body looks to what it does, including mindful practices and resistance training to support insulin response.
